AIAIAI launch sustainability initiative with headphone refurbishment programme
Customers can trade in, repair or repurpose their used headphones with the aim of reducing electronic waste
AIAIAI has launched a new sustainability drive with their headphone refurbishment programme.
On 14th December, the Danish audio design company kickstarted Remixed, an initiative that offers listeners the opportunity to trade in, repair and repurpose their used headphones with the aim of reducing electronic waste.
As part of the initiative - which is part of the company's broader commitment to extending the lifetime of its products - customers can trade their headphones or parts for credit towards a new or refurbished pair. Headphones traded in as part of the programme will be professionally inspected by the company's engineers before being revamped and "remixed" to extend their lifetime.
The launch of the drive comes after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) revealed that electronic waste is one of the fastest-growing waste streams globally, with millions of tons of "e-waste" generated each year. The United Nations estimated the global e-waste generation was 53.6 million tons in 2019 alone.
In a statement, AIAIAI founder Frederik Jorgensen said: "We are excited to launch Remixed, our latest sustainability initiative, building on years of focus on responsible product design. With Remixed, we not only provide our customers with further options to extend the life of their modular headphones, we are also supporting sustainability and reducing e-waste."
