Akai MPC owned by Grammy-winning R&B duo Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis goes on sale

An Akai MPC3000 previously owned by Grammy-winning hitmakers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis is currently up for sale.

The iconic sampler/sequencer, as championed by the likes of Dr. Dre and J Dilla, changed the game for rap, hip-hop, and R&B when it was introduced in 1993. R&B production team Jam and Lewis were previously members of Prince's band The Time and went on to produce singles an array of stars such as Janet Jackson (notably working on her 1986 'Control' album), Mariah Carey, the Human League, and Alexander O'Neal.

The MPC is currently going for a cool €4,000 on Reverb. As the seller notes, it's outfitted with a zip drive and comes with several extra disks, one of which has some files/samples from an old Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis session. Check out the full listing here.

Last month, Akai announced the latest edition to its MPK line of keyboard controllers, the MPK Mini Plus. This new iteration of the brand's best-selling MIDI controller spans an octave more than its predecessor with, 37 Gen 2 keys instead of 25. Unlike the older model, it comes fitted with a built-in step sequencer that offers two polyphonic tracks, with eight voices of polyphony for keyboard tracks and 16 notes per drum step. There's also a built-in arpeggiator.

Back in 2020, Akai Pro announced new music-making software called MPC Beats. Inspired by the functionality of their classic samplers and groove machines, the free MPC Beats features the same swing and programming from the original as well as 2GB of sample content to get you started.
