Aphex Twin teases London live date with cryptic web page
Is Aphex Twin returning to Field Day this year?
Aphex Twin has teased what many are speculating to be a forthcoming London live date via a cryptic web page.
The website, which features Aphex Twin's logo, the word "LONDON" and the URL 190823 – the date of London's Field Day festival at Victoria Park – has led many online to believe that a Richard D James live return is imminent.
The mention of Waxarch Limited – the parent company of Field Day and All Points East – offers another clue. On the website, fans can submit their email address to await further info.
Aphex Twin last headlined Field Day in 2017, with a set that was live streamed by NTS. His last London show took place at Printworks back in 2019.
Last year, Aphex Twin released a free “sample mashing” app called Samplebrain. The open-source sound design software works by chopping samples up into a "brain" of interconnected snippets called 'blocks', which are "connected into a network by similarity". The app was created with engineer Dave Griffiths, and was originally inspired by Shazam.
Prior to that, he dropped a surprise NFT auction, in collaboration with artist Weirdcore. Back in 2020, he teamed up with Novation for a new hardware synth, the AFX Station. His last full-length album, ‘Syro’, came in 2014.
