Bandcamp introduces playlists function on mobile app
Create playlists from your personal Bandcamp collection
Bandcamp has introduced a playlists function on its mobile app.
To create a playlist, open up the Bandcamp Fan app and look for the new playlists tab in your collection (which should be sandwiched in between 'albums & tracks' and 'downloads'). You can then add an album or track from your collection by clicking on the three dots. You can also shuffle your playlist from the 'now playing' screen.
This new function is only available via the Bandcamp Fan app for now, not the desktop version, and only with items that you own. Find out more on the Bandcamp site here.
Last February, Bandcamp introduced a new queue listening feature on its app, meaning listeners can now line up continuous playlists, which puts the platform in line with many major streaming platforms.
In March 2020, Bandcamp launched a monthly "fee-free-Friday", when the platform would waive its revenue share for all sales taken on the day, thereby allowing creators 100% of proceeds. Bandcamp Fridays have continued in the two years since. In November 2020, it launched Live, a new streaming platform for artists to stream ticketed events and shows.
It also launched the Juneteenth fundraisers in response to the murder of George Floyd in 2020, giving 24 hours of profits to the civil rights organisation NAACP's Legal Defence Fund, and pledging to donate $30,000 to organisations fighting for racial justice.
Bandcamp's vinyl pressing service, launched in 2019, was expanded in early 2021.
