Beyoncé wins Best Dance/Electronic album and recording awards at 2023 Grammys
Kendrick Lamar and Purple Disco Machine were also among the winners at this year's awards
Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, and Purple Disco Machine are among the winners at the 2023 Grammy Awards, which took place last night (Sunday, 5th February) in Los Angeles.
Beyoncé picked up the awards for Best Dance/Electronic album and recording for 'Break My Soul' from her 2022 release 'Renaissance', while also winning Best Traditional R&B Performance for ‘Plastic Off The Sofa’ and Best R&B Song for ‘Cuff It’. She thanked "the queer community for your love and inventing the genre" in her acceptance speech.
Taking her lifetime total to 32, Beyoncé broke the record for most Grammy wins in history, overtaking classical musician Georg Solti’s record of 31 Grammys.
German producer Purple Disco Machine won the Best Remixed Recording gong for his glitzy remix of Lizzo's 2022 track 'About Damn Time'.
Elsewhere, Kendrick Lamar's 2022 LP 'Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers' was crowned Best Rap Album and 'The Heart Part 5' Best Rap Song. Bad Bunny's 'Un Verano Sin Ti' was named Best Música Urbana Album. See the full list of this year's winners here.
Mary J. Blige and Steve Lacy were among the artists who performed at last night's event. There was also a live performance celebrating the 50th anniversary of hip-hop with the likes of LL Cool J, Big Boi, Busta Rhymes, De La Soul, Missy Elliott, and others.
Last August, Beyoncé released a selection of remixes of 'Break My Soul' with Honey Dijon, The Carry Nation's Nita Aviance, and one of Chicago's underground heroes, Terry Hunter, all offering their takes on the track that nods to a '90s house classic, Robin S' 'Show Me Love'.
