CORIN announces new album, ‘Lux Aeterna’, on Lee Gamble’s UIQ
Her sophomore LP will “explore the idea of sound as a sentient being”
CORIN has announced a new album, ‘Lux Aeterna’, on Lee Gamble’s UIQ imprint. Check out the first single, ‘sunta’, below.
The second LP from the Filipina-Australian producer, DJ, and performer is set for release on 14th July across both vinyl and digital formats. CORIN made her first outing on UIQ with 2021’s ‘Enantiodromia (UIQ0013)’ EP, following the release of her debut album on the Bangkok-based, Bedouin Records in 2019.
‘Lux Aeterna’ is named after a choral work by 20th century composer, György Ligeti, which appeared in the film, 2001: A Space Odyssey. When creating the new album, CORIN describes being particularly inspired by Ligeti’s use of micropolyphony – “a tool whereby clusters of sound slowly merge creating amorphous cloud-like formations.”
Elaborating on the trance, IDM, and baroque-inspired project, she explained: “‘Lux Aeterna’ explores the idea of sound as a sentient being. Like a celestial opera, ecstatic trance is reimagined within the context of sacred liturgy – merging hyper-real soundscapes with gregorian chant and medieval instrumentation.”
Accompanying the release of lead single, ‘sunta’, was a video teaser illustrating the album’s visual 3D world, created by Hanoi-based multimedia artist, Tristan Jalleh. CORIN has also revealed that her brand new A/V live show will be kicking off over the summer with performances at Sydney’s Soft Centre and Unsound Adelaide, supporting Oneohtrix Point Never, with more appearances being announced shortly.
‘Lux Aeterna’ will be available from 14th July. Listen to the first single and watch the video teaser below.
