Making the iconic Homerpalooza cameo a reality after 27 years

Cypress Hill recreate Simpsons cameo, perform ‘Black Sunday’ with symphony orchestra: Watch

Cypress Hill performed live with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra at Mission Ballroom last week. You can watch some clips from the show below.

While this is the first time the seminal Los Angeles hip-hop act have been joined by an orchestra in real life, many will remember the group's cameo in the 1996 'Homerpalooza' episode of The Simpsons, in which they linked up with the London Symphony Orchestra to play the classic, 'Insane In The Brain'. A clip from their cameo appearance was played on stage at the beginning of their performance at Mission Ballroom.

The show was the first of three collaborative performances between the group and classical musicians. Led by conductor Carmen Dragon, Cypress Hill — B-Real, Sen Dog, Eric Bobo and DJ Lord — will do the same again tomorrow, Tuesday 25th July, alongside the the San Diego Symphony at The Rady Shell, Jacobs Park. Tickets are available here

A third date, with the Nashville Symphony, is set for Tuesday 5th September, tickets are on sale now. The concerts coincide with the 30th anniversary of Cypress Hill's landmark second album, 'Black Sunday', which will be performed in its entirety at each event. Classic tracks from other records also feature, rearranged with the orchestral accompaniment in mind.

"If it turns out to be all that we hope and we dig it, we definitely will do more," Sen Dog told The San Diego Union Tribune in a recent interview. "If it wasn’t for (“Simpsons’ creator) Matt Groening putting us in ‘Homerpalooza’, I don’t know if any of this would be happening now. I’m very excited. We would love to do something with the London Symphony."

Cypress Hill initially teased that they would make the iconic cameo a reality earlier this year, saying: "Salute to The Simpsons for birthing the idea."
