Daft Punk tease announcement with mysterious coordinates on Spotify visualisers
The now-split French duo are up to something just ahead of the 10th anniversary of 'Random Access Memories' next week
Daft Punk are up to something if Spotify visualisers are to be believed.
The now-parted French duo have updated the graphics that accompany 'Random Access Memories' — which celebrates its 10th anniversary next week — on Spotify with a series of coordinates. Eight of the 2013 album's 15 tracks now feature a visual that lists coordinates and "May 11th, 10 AM". So far the cities indicated for this Thursday's mysterious events are London, Sydney, Tokyo, Paris, Mexico City, Santa Monica, Buenos Aires, São Paulo and New York.
Fandom account @Daft_Wub has also spotted coordinates for Berlin in the source code of Daft Punk's website. See the full list of international locations fans have collected via Twitter and Reddit threads and on Google Docs. It's unclear if Daft Punk will be adding more coordinates for the remaining 'Random Access Memories' tracks.
It's likely this vague global campaign is tied to the expanded 10th anniversary edition of 'Random Access Memories', out this Friday on 12th May. That triple-vinyl set will feature 35 minutes of previously unreleased music by Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo.
'Random Access Memories' was crowned the best-selling dance music vinyl album of the 2010s.
Thomas Bangalter recently opened up about Daft Punk's split and their robot personas in a new interview with BBC.
