Disclosure announce new album, ‘Alchemy’, out this week
Released independently, the record is free of samples and guest features
Disclosure have announced details of their fourth album, 'Alchemy', which will land tomorrow, Friday 14th July.
The surprise release coincides with the 10th anniversary of the UK duo's bestselling debut album, 'Settle', and marks a bold next step for the project. Putting the music out independently rather than through a label, no samples or guest features are included. As such, the record is very much about brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence laying their work out bare, with tracks nodding to synth-heavy trance, jungle, bass, house and techno.
“This record is a celebration of us feeling liberated right now. We’re no longer signed to a major record label. We’re not going to tour this record. We can do whatever we like and be super creative," said Guy. "With our last record, the emphasis was on finishing the tracks as well as we could. Whereas with this one, it was on starting them as well as we could."
“There was this combination of deep heartbreak and sadness, but also deep admiration and appreciation. Let’s turn this horrible feeling into something beautiful. The whole idea was to channel pain into beauty – which, in hindsight, is always the aim," added Howard.
Work on the LP began as the siblings called time on a mammoth world tour last year following 2020's album, 'Energy'. Spanning 150 dates, mixed emotions came after the last curtain call, with Guy temporarily relocating fro London to Los Angeles alongside his wife, and writing with collaborators Max Margolis and DonnyBravo, while Howard, then suffering heartbreak and exhaustion, added his own touches to that work, with help from acclaimed songwriter Cirkut on at least one of the tracks, 'Higher Than Ever Before'.
The pair are throwing a free surprise launch party today (13th July) at a secret London location. Fans should keep an eye on Disclosure's Instagram for location updates.
