Dublin Digital Radio’s Alternating Current festival announces 2023 line-up
The three-dayer returns to celebrate Ireland's diverse electronic and experimental scenes this October
Dublin Digital Radio (ddr.) has announced the line-up for its annual festival Alternating Current.

Taking place at The Complex in Dublin - where the ddr. studio is based - this year's programme features new, exclusively commissioned music and audio works from Irish artists such as Áine O'Dwyer, BB84, Lakker, Caskré, Radio Kapital, Muireann Levis and more. Check out the full line-up below.
Alternating Current is organised around the theme of “meitheal,” an Irish language word that denotes a historical practice of community labour in the production of the common goods.
In a statement, ddr. said: "For AC23 we want to explore sonic commons - ways in which the production of and experience of sounds is always a collaborative process - connecting us into a network of historical and contemporary movements, technologies and people."
They continued: "We want to consider how we create work together in times of precarity, how we organise ourselves to create cultural spaces and how when we make and listen to music together we are always living-in-common with others. Through this theme, the festival will open up links with new organisations (nationally and internationally) and spark collaborations and new forms of community, while continuing with our vision of making Alternating Current a celebration of sonic cultures, radio art and contemporary Irish music."
As well as a series of workshops and screenings by Dublin Art and Technology Association, this year's festival will also feature a four-part audio artwork produced by Tom O'Dea in collaboration with four international radio stations: ddr., Radio Kapital (Warsaw, Poland) Radio Cashmere (Berlin, Germany) and Radio Alhara (Bethlehem, Palestine).
Through a collaborative working process, an artist from each station will produce a sound work - the four works will be simultaneously broadcast on each of the partner stations - using an internet radio, browser or the specially created web interface listeners will be able to move between the four stations and create their own path across these interconnected audio landscapes.
