Fatima Al Qadiri is back on Hyperdub with the new 'Gumar' EP. Listen to lead track 'Mojik (Your Waves)' below.
The four-track EP gets its title from Fatima Al Qadiri's collaborator, fellow Kuwaiti vocalist Gumar. His name means "moon" in Arabic, in line with the record's influences of lamentation singing from the artists' musical education and upbringing.
'Gumar' features original artwork by Kuwaiti artist Khalid al Gharaballi, a longtime friend and collaborator of Fatima Al Qadiri. It's out on 10th March via digital and 10-inch vinyl.
This is Fatima Al Qadiri's first new music since her 2022 score for the film 'La Abuela' and the 2021 'Medieval Femme' LP for Hyperdub. Her previous releases for Kode9's label are the 2017 'Shaneera' EP and LPs 'Brute' (2016) and 'Asiatisch' (2015).
Last autumn, Hyperdub released EPs from Burial and Lady Lykez, plus two from Ikonika.
