Forest Swords returns after five years with new double single, ‘Butterfly Effect’ and ‘Tar’: Listen
The title track features an unheard vocal sample by Neneh Cherry — watch the Sam Wiehl- directed video, out now
Forest Swords is back with his first new tracks in five years. Watch the video for 'Butterfly Effect' below.
UK artist Matthew Barnes's first solo release since the 2017 LP 'Compassion' is the 'Butterfly Effect' single, which features a vocal sample by Neneh Cherry, out now via Ninja Tune. The double single also features 'Tar', plus a reprise of the title track.
"The track swirled around as a pure instrumental for a while, a beat I made in the cold factory space in Liverpool I was recording in, some kind of attempt to cope with the psychedelic amounts of pain I was in from a leg injury", Barnes said. "Neneh’s unreleased archive vocal turned out to be a perfect fit, like they were meant to be together somehow. As a fan that has always idolised her, it's a true honour and life highlight to have her blessing to use the vocal on this track".
This autumn, Forest Swords will head out on tour through the UK and Europe. Find more information and dates here.
Since his 2017 LP, also released by Ninja Tune, Forest Swords has contributed to the DJ-Kicks mix series and composed scores for ballet, video games and film, such as 'The Machine Air' soundtrack.
