Gatecrasher returns to Sheffield’s Don Valley Bowl this summer
The trance institution is heading back to the site of its Millennium New Year's Eve spectacular
Gatecrasher, one of the biggest names from the UK's superclub era, has announced plans for a huge daytime event at Sheffield's Don Valley Bowl on Sunday 3rd September.
The Gatecrasher Classical event will form part of the wider three-day Rock N Roll Circus, an annual music showcase in the English city. Following the format of previous concerts, residents and DJs with close ties to the dance music juggernaut will play alongside classical performers, reinterpreting the progressive and euphoric trance anthems the club was known for.
Tickets go on sale Friday 9th June at 10AM.
The venue is particularly significant for Gatecrasher. While holding court on weekly Saturdays at the now-defunct Sheffield venue The Republic, New Year's Eve 1999-2000 saw the action switch to Don Valley Stadium for 2000GC, with 25,000 in attendance.
The night featured Tensile One, then the largest portable structure in the world, and twin DJ booths connected by a suspension bridge 20ft in the air. Names including The Chemical Brothers, Sasha, and Paul Van Dyk were all on the lineup.
"Gatecrasher was at the zenith of clubbing culture in this country for so many years and we're proud to be able to bring it back for this one-off, all-day spectacular in its spiritual home of Sheffield," said a spokesperson for Rock N Roll Circus.
“The millennium party it hosted 23 years ago is the stuff of legend, and we couldn't think of a better way to conclude our first Rock N Roll Circus in the city with an all-out Gatecrasher party featuring all of the DJs that helped propel its brand onto the international stage," they continued.
