Glastonbury Festival to run entirely on renewable energy for 2023
Production areas and generators will be powered by fossil fuel-free sources
Glastonbury Festival is set to run entirely on renewable energy for its upcoming 2023 edition.
"We’re very pleased to report that all of Glastonbury 2023’s power needs will be met by renewable energy and renewable fuels, eliminating the need to rely on fossil fuels for power across the Festival," Glastonbury tweeted today (19th June).
All of the festival's production areas will either be run on electricity from lower impact, fossil fuel-free sources or using solar PV and battery hybrid systems. A temporary wind turbine has been installed to supply some market stalls while all generators will be powered by sustainable, renewable palm oil-free HVO fuel, made from waste cooking oil.
The festival's Arcadia area, known for its iconic spider stage, had already announced that they would be running entirely on recycled energy for the first time this year.
Announcing the decision last month, Arcadia explained that instead of relying on non-renewable resources like diesel, the 5,000 square-metre festival area will run on recycled biofuels, including one converted from highly refined chip fat and cooking oil.

Glastonbury are also asking attendees not to bring disposable vapes to this year’s festival, which will take place this week (21st June- 26th June) at Worthy Farm, Somerset.
