Gut Level Sheffield launches fundraiser for new DIY space
The group hopes to raise £50,000 to help get the space fully up and running
Sheffield collective Gut Level have launched a fundraiser to help set up their new not-for-profit DIY space.
The LGBTQ+ focused group are hoping to raise £50,000 in order to help them complete the renovation of the space and make it fully operational. "We're opening a cute and sexy not-for-profit DIY space! But we need help to get it open!" they wrote on Instagram. The fundraiser can be found here.
The collective's Instagram post continued: "A lot of people are feeling the effect of rising costs right now and we understand this is a lot of money to raise. There are lots of different ways to support and we're extremely grateful for any amount of time or money people are able to contribute."
The new space will house a creative space, as well as a roof terrace and community garden. There is also a bar and live music space with a license to host events until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.
Confirming that they had received full planning permission from the local council, Gut Level said: "We're in final negotiations on the terms of the lease, but we'll be signing for an initial term of five years, giving our community the stable home we've been searching for."
Gut Level formed as a nightclub for marginalised and under-represented people in 2019 but lost its space last year due to local redevelopment. It has continued putting on events and offering support to its local community via a temporary home since losing that main space.
Last month, Gut Level took over London's Barbican for an exhibition about DIY culture in the North of England.
