gyrofield releases new EP, ‘Maybes / Oligarch’, on Metalheadz: Listen
The Hong Kong-born artist continues to push boundaries of drum & bass
gyrofield has released a new EP, ‘Maybes / Oligarch’, via Metalheadz. Check it out below.
The Hong Kong-born, Bristol-based artist's two track debut for the label is intended as her "first attempt at interpreting the language of dance music in a deeply personal way", while also acting as a continuation of her pursuits to push the boundaries of drum & bass.
The project finds gyrofield – real name Kiana Li – venturing further into the arena of future-facing d&b following her February EP, ‘Stimulus’, as well as her Deadbeats debut, ‘Insecure / Stockholm’, which she credits as being “instrumental to [her] understanding, curation and production of UK Bass music.”
Since moving from Hong Kong to Bristol to study music in 2020, the producer has released a total of eight EPs, making appearances on labels including Overview Music, Pilot., and Victorious. gyrofield has also released a string of remixes including a Fever Dream rework of Noisia’s ‘Banshee’ and an electro rework of Tom Finster’s ‘Little Circles’, released originally on his 2022 ‘Year of I’ record.
‘Maybes / Oligarch’ is out now via Metalheadz. Listen to the EP below.
Last year, Metalheadz launched a new non-d&b label, HeadzState, billed as a place to showcase “what the foundations of techno represent and the evolution of those sounds over the last 30 plus years.”
