Houghton Festival cancelled due to extreme weather warning
The Norfolk festival was due to start today
Houghton Festival has been cancelled due to extreme weather forecast.
The Craig Richards-curated festival was due to run from tonight (8th August) to Monday morning (12th) but, following warnings of issued by the Met Office of 40 MPH winds, thunderstorms and heavy downpours in Norfolk, it has been cancelled.
The festival’s organisers released a statement confirming the news this morning via Facebook: “Tragically after much consultation with authorities, health and safety and all the festival directors, the decision has been made to cancel Houghton 2019. Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers, staff and performers, which would be compromised, were we to go ahead."
"We are utterly devastated," they added. "All the hard work, love and creativity that has gone into planning and producing this year’s event made this an almost impossible decision to make."
"Please do not turn up on site today,” the statement concludes. “and pass this message onto anyone else you know who may be leaving for the event today."
Information about refunds will be will be shared soon via social media, according to the festival.
Houghton’s line-up this year boasted names including DJ Stingray, Ben UFO, Four Tet, Shanti Celeste, Ricardo Villalobos, Saoirse, Hunee, Seth Troxler, Helena Hauff, and many more.
Houghton was one of our favourite festivals last year, offering a weekend of raving in the English countryside like no other.
It is the second instance of a festival cancelling this week due to adverse weather conditions. Yesterday (7th August) Boardmasters in Cornwall was cancelled following warnings of issued by the Met Office.
