KAM-BU releases UK rave and sound system culture-inspired EP, ‘BUILT 2 LAST’: Listen
South London artist KAM-BU has dropped his six-track sophomore EP
Kam-Bu’s ‘BUILT 2 LAST’, his first project since the end of 2020, has been released via OFF GRID. You can listen to it below.
The EP boasts production credits from Tom Dinsdale of Audio Bullys, Jakwob, and JD Reid, as the artist takes inspiration from classic UK rave culture along with modern UK politics.
Speaking about the EP, Kam-Bu said: “I wanted to really explore my heritage and how that informed sound system culture on British soil. I’ve been having fun with nuances of different dance music created here and across the water… ‘Built 2 Last’ the saga continues!”
The tape includes previously released tracks ‘SPACE’ and ‘LIVE-O’, as well as the politically-charged ‘ETON MESS’, where Kam puts the UK government on blast. KAM-BU was nominated in DJ Mag’s 2021 Best of British awards for Best MC/Vocalist.
The tape is the follow-up to his complex inaugural project ‘Black On Black’, which paid tribute to the Windrush generation. In his interview for our Meet The MC feature in 2021, following his debut's release, he said, “I wish I had the answers, but that’s why I put my thoughts in the music — to inspire.”
