Kate Bush, Missy Elliott, Chaka Khan, DJ Kool Herc, more inducted into Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame
Bush has said she was "completely shocked" after finding out about the inclusion
Kate Bush, Missy Elliott, Chaka Khan and DJ Kool Herc are among the latest group of inductees into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
Forming part of the class of 2023, Khan is set to receive the Musical Excellence Award alongside Al Kooper and Elton John songwriter Bernie Taupin, while DJ Kool Herc will be given the Musical Influence Award together with Link Wray.
Kate Bush and Missy Elliott, meanwhile, form part of the wider group of performer inductees with the likes of George Michael and Sheryl Crow also among them. They will all be officially inducted and given their awards during this year's ceremony on Friday, 3rd November at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
In a statement posted on her website, Bush said: "I have to admit I'm completely shocked at the news of being inducted into the Hall Of Fame! It's something I just never thought would happen."
She continued: "Thank you so much to everyone who voted for me. It means a great deal that you would think of me. It's such a huge honour. Now as part of the initiation ceremony I get to find out about the secret handshake... there is one, right?"
Writing on Instagram, Missy Elliott said: "I want to say this is HUGE, not for just me but [for] all my sisters in hip-hop. This door is now OPEN to showcase the hard work that many of us WOMEN contribute to MUSIC. I have cried all day because I am GRATEFUL."
John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said in a press statement: "This year's incredible group of inductees reflects the diverse artists and sounds that define rock'n'roll. We are honoured that this November's induction ceremony in New York will coincide with two milestones in music culture; the 90th birthday of Willie Nelson and the 50th Anniversary of the birth of hip-hop."
Last August, a soundsystem that belonged to DJ Kool Herc was auctioned by Christie's for just over $200,000.
Kate Bush's classic single 'Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)' returned to the UK singles charts last year after featuring prominently in an episode of 'Stranger Things'.
