Korg announce new version of the Volca FM
A new and improved version of the Yamaha DX7-inspired mini-synth
Korg has announced a new version of the Volca FM.
The Volca FM 2 serves as an update to the first Volca FM — a 3-voice polyphonic mini-synth first released by Korg six years ago, which takes inspiration from the classic '80s synth, the Yamaha DX7.
This new version is boosted with six voices instead of three, as well as a reverb effect — in addition to the pre-existing chorus effect — a brand new randomiser, an improved arpeggiator, and other enhancements. Check it out on Korg's site.
The Volca FM is a portable FM synthesiser that recreates the sound engine of the Yamaha DX7, the classic digital synthesiser which has been used by everyone from Prince and Kraftwerk to Orbital. In 2020, the Yamaha DX7 synth used by Prince on 'Purple Rain' went up for sale.
Last February, Korg released a new set of noise-cancelling headphones, the NC-Q1s, aimed at DJs and live performers in loud environments.
