New record store, Umbrella Vinyl, opening in Edinburgh this week
It specialises in jazz, blues, soul, Latin, Afrobeat and dub
A new record store is opening in central Edinburgh this weekend.
Umbrella Vinyl, which is located in Valleyfield Street, is set to open this Saturday (5th August) at 10AM.
The shop is run by three friends who met in 2015 while living in Hong Kong. It specialises in selling new and second-hand vinyl in genres spanning jazz, blues, soul, Latin, Afrobeat and dub.
"We'll offer an unparalleled selection of rare and exciting records from around the globe to suit all budgets," the trio told Resident Advisor.
"We have connections globally to source vinyl, and hope to offer a comfortable, welcoming, inclusive space for everybody who loves music – and even those who don't."
Co-founder Nick launched a monthly record fair in Hong Kong in 2017 and started his own label, Vintage Vinyl Hong Kong, in 2018.
Fellow co-founders Josh and Laura have been hosting a vinyl-only radio show, Vinyl Voyages, since 2016, which began in Hong Kong before moving over to the Edinburgh community station EH-FM.
