Nightmares On Wax launches new label with Louis VI album, 'Earthling'

Nightmares On Wax has launched a new label, called HiyaSelf Recordings Unlimited.

The label's first release will be an album from multi-instrumentalist Louis VI, titled 'Earthling', which sees him explore jazz, hip hop, Afrobeat, R&B, soul, electronic music, funk and more.

A number of friends and affiliates of his appear across the record, including Lex Amor, Oscar Jerome, Moses Boyd, Bluestaeb, Alex Cosmo Blake and Mick Jenkins.

The message explored across 'Earthling' builds on a keynote speech that Louis VI gave at the COP26 summit in Glasgow in 2021, as well as his documentary 'Nature Ain't A Luxury'. For every song mastered on the album, a tree was planted in partnership with the organisation Plant For The Planet and the record will be pressed on environmentally friendly vinyl.

You can watch a video for the Afrobeat-influenced lead cut 'Yonn Manman Laté', which features Moses Boyd, below. The video is said to offer an abstract expression of the album's messages, with Louis VI explaining: "The 'Earthling' dancer represents our spirit, unstained by colonialism and slavery, free, energetic, powerful, alive and sovereign, still connected to nature and the aliveness of this planet."

Nightmares On Wax has also reworked the lead single, and you can check out below too.

Earlier this year, Nightmares On Wax released a live album, reworking his last LP 'Shout Out! To Freedom'.
