Paul Oakenfold’s classic album, ‘Bunkka’, to be released on vinyl for the first time
Pressed to 180g heavyweight wax and with expanded artwork, the release also features seminal 'Southern Sun' remixes by Tiësto and Gabriel & Dresden
Paul Oakenfold's classic debut album, 'Bunkka', it set to be released on vinyl for the first time. New State Music is behind the pressing, which will be available from 19th May.
Pre-orders for the 2023 edition are available now. The remastered version comes on 180g heavyweight wax, with expanded 'robogirls' artwork by original designers Michael Nash Associates and photographer Matthew Donaldson.
First landing in 2002 via the Maverick imprint, 'Bunkka' went on to sell more than one million copies globally, and produced Oakenfold's biggest-selling singles to date. 'Starry Eyed Surprise' with Crazy Town's Shifty Shellshock reached number six in the UK charts, while 'Ready Steady Go', featuring So Solid Crew’s Asher D, and 'Southern Sun', with Carla Werner on vocals, both peaked at 16.
The 12" remix single of the latter, including highly sought-after Tiësto and Gabriel & Dresden interpretations — both of which arrived at the time the album was initially released — will also be reissued on 28th April and can be pre-ordered now. Original pressings currently sell for over £200 on the secondhand market.
'Bunkka' also features a range of other voices from across the music and culture world. Ice Cube ('Get Em Up'), Perry Farrell ('Time of Your Life'), Nelly Furtado and Tricky ('The Harder They Come'), Hunter S. Thompson ('Nixon's Spirit'), Grant-Lee Phillips ('Motion'), Emiliana Torrini ('Hold Your Hand'), and Tiff Lacey ('Hypnotised') all make appearances.
