Pet Shop Boys ‘Electric’ vinyl sells for $2,243 on Discogs
Only 350 copies of the limited edition box set vinyl were made
A limited edition vinyl box set of Pet Shop Boys' album ‘Electric’ has sold for $2,243 on Discogs.
Despite the high price tag, the release sits at number 21 in Discogs' top selling items of June 2023. An obscure soul single from 1970 by The 4 Dynamics landed at number 1 with a sale price of $5,978.
The Vinyl Factory released the handcrafted special edition of ‘Electric’ in December 2013, with copies limited to 350 worldwide. Singles released from the Pet Shop Boys' 12th album include ‘Axis’ and ‘Love Is A Bourgeois Construct’.
The box sets are individually hand-numbered and signed by bandmembers Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe on the white vinyl label (blank side).
Included in the set is: five coloured 180-gram vinyl records, four of which are fluorescent colours, and the fifth is white; a 12 page fold-out leaflet with credits; five 12"x12" clear protection sleeves, and more. It features the nine tracks on the duo's 2013 album, which have been mastered for vinyl and pressed on the EMI 1400.
The news follows a limited edition of Eric Prydz album 'Opus' selling through Discogs for $2,105 earlier this year. It marked the second time that ‘Opus’ has appeared in a Discogs' ‘Most Expensive Items’ list recently, having sold for $2,000 last August.
A rare vinyl copy of Röyksopp's seminal album ‘Melody A.M.’, which features cover art by Banksy, sold on the platform for $8,450 in 2021, while in 2019 a copy fetched $10,256.
Avicii's ‘Levels’ sold for a record-breaking amount on Discogs in 2020. A 12" version of the late EDM legend's breakthrough track sold for $1,764.
Meanwhile, a couple of years ago Discogs hit a new milestone when it recorded one million cassettes listed on its marketplace for the first time.
