Premiere: Hayden Kolb ‘mirror me’
Hayden Kolb debuts on TT with four brilliantly sweet electronica jams
Hayden Kolb will release a new EP, ‘lost in my room’, via TT next month. Listen to ‘mirror me’ below.
Alchemising elements of ambient, lo-fi pop and electronica, there’s a sweetness to this Nashville, Tennessee artist’s four-track debut on the London label – a luminous, animated vibe that conjures images of video game universes and cartoon magic. As the releases’ accompanying text reads: “These are songs made to soundtrack dreams had during mossbed naps under toadstool parasols, micro-anthems for peaceful bug civilisations flourishing in enchanted terrariums.”
From the bouncing beat and tender melodies of ‘in my room’ and downtempo cúmbia drums, acoustic guitar and wriggly synth lead of ‘tracing hands’ to the bucolic field recordings and bubbling FX of ‘puddle’, it’s a an EP that thrives in its gentleness, but feels full of life nonetheless. ‘mirror me’ moves on a shuffling beat, expanding into a tiny epic of choral chimes and keys – triumphant and lovely.
‘lost in my room’ follows TT’s 2022 run of releases, which included BFTT’s debut album and EPs from artists including ex.sses and Symrun.
‘lost in my room’ will be released on 3rd March. Pre-order it here.
