Premiere: Night Works ‘Sweep It Out Your Hair (Moving Still Remix)’
Moving Still puts a thumping dancefloor spin on Night Works’ Arthur Russell and Steve Reich-inspired ‘Sweep It Out Your Hair’
Night Works, aka Metronomy and Christine and the Queens collaborator Gabriel Stebbing, has tapped Dublin-based artist Moving Still for a remix of his track, ‘Sweep It Out Your Hair’. You can listen to it below.
Having originally appeared on the Margate artist’s 2022 album, ‘Tongue & Groove’ – an 11-track suite of soulful pop and psychedelic R&B with flourishes of new age and minimalism – Moving Still gives the tune a typically thumping dancefloor twist.
While the original mix floats on gorgeous marimba patterns a lá Steve Reich, and presents an Arthur Russel-esque ode to “the poetry of afternoons in the park and losing yourself to your lover”, Moving Still introduces a pumping Hi-NRG groove, fizzy melodies inspired by Arabic pop and a classique Italo ARP bassline. The romance of the park is swapped for the sweat of the club, but none of the suaveness is lost as Stebbing’s vocals pour like velvet over its irresistible beat.
The remix comes off the back of Night Works singing to the Sub Pop label, while Moving Still enjoys a prolific run of shows including a landmark Boiler Room set. The release follows the Saudi-Irish artist’s 'Kalam Hub' EP on Cooking with Palms Trax from November 2022 and his two-track 12” of ‘90s Kuwaiti music edits via Disco Arabesquo Records from earlier this year. He plays at the White Hotel in Manchester 28th May.
