Premiere: Papaphilia ‘No Path Is Forged Over The Abyss Without Meeting At The Altar’

London-based label Chinabot celebrates its fifth anniversary this month with the release of a new compilation, titled ‘5’. Listen to Papaphilia’s ‘No Path Is Forged Over The Abyss Without Meeting At The Altar’ below.

Launched in 2017 as a platform “to change the dialogue surrounding Asian music”, Chinabot’s latest compilation comprises 12 tracks of experimental electronic and club music  from throughout Asia and its global diaspora. It comes at the end of another prolific year for the imprint, which has released albums and EPs from artists including Jaeho Hwang, Yokubari, Bo Sedkid and Liew Niyomkarn over the past 12 months.

Spotlighting label affiliates and newcomers, ‘5’ features music from Jaeho Hwang, Sabiwa, Sarah Haras, Ayankoko, JPN Kasai and Pal Hwang Dan, alongside Nanzhen Yang, Papaphilia, Chooc Ly and more. From fiery rave and footwork tracks into cinematic soundscapes and ambience, it’s a testament to the sonic variety at the heart of Chinabot’s output.

Papaphilia’s ‘No Path Is Forged Over The Abyss Without Meeting At The Altar’ is the Sri Lankan-Australian artist’s debut for the label, serving as a teaser for a full-length album due to arrive next year. Written by Papaphilia and produced by Kuya Neil, the track fuses classic industrial and EBM energy with striking vocal samples, percussion and retrofuturist synths.

‘5’ will be released this Friday 25th November. Pre-order it here

The label will also be throwing a launch party on the 25th at The Yard Theatre in Hackney Wick. Hosted alongside the Décalé music collective, sets on the night will come from Zein, Ans M, Angela Wai-Nok Hui, Jlte Taygeta and Chooc Ly. Grab your tickets here
