Sofia Kourtesis releases new single, ‘Estación Esperanza’, on Ninja Tune: Listen
Featuring a rare guest appearance from Manu Chao
Berlin-based, Peruvian artist Sofia Kourtesis has unveiled a new single, 'Estación Esperanza’, which is out now on Ninja Tune.
A follow up to last year's 'Fresia Magdalena' EP, the next track to arrive from the producer comes with a rare appearance by the legendary Manu Chao, and opens with samples of anti-homophobic protestor chants.
"'Estación Esperanza’ is all about hope," Kourtesis said of the single. "I’m hopeful my mother will get better, I’m hopeful the world will begin to heal, I’m hopeful this song will bring you light on dark days. I first wrote this song after listening to Manu Chao. To me, Manu Chao has always represented hope, his lyrics were like a bible to me growing up. This song is for him, my mother and all those activists working hard to make this world better.. never lose hope."
In addition to the new release, Kourtesis has also confirmed two headline UK shows for spring, heading to the Pink Room at Manchester's Yes on 20th April, and Electrowerks, London, on 21st April. This month she also plays two dates at Bristol O2 Academy (25th and 26th January), Cardiff Tram Shed (28th January), and The Dome in Brighton (30th January).
'Fresia Magdalena' appeared on DJ Mag's Top Albums of 2021. In December, Ninja Tune joined the likes of Warp and !K7 by signing up to the Music Climate Pact, working towards net-zero emissions in the industry by 2050.
