Stormzy’s #Merky Books launches New Writers’ Prize 2020
Fiction, non-fiction and poetry will all be considered for publishing contracts with the grime MC's literary imprint
Stormzy’s #Merky Books has announced the second edition of its annual New Writers’ Prize.
The publishing imprint, launched in 2018 by the UK rapper and Penguin Random House, focuses on platforming new literary talent from underrepresented communities.
The competution is open to scribes aged 16-30 from across the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. Work can be fiction (excluding children's books), non-fiction or poetry. The winner will receive a publishing contract, while all shortlisted entrants are invited to a Writer's Camp comprising workshops, panels, one-to-one training and more.
To enter check out the official application form, which must be completed by midnight Friday 30th October. A 200 word synopsis and 1,500 word extract for works of fiction and non-fiction, or 200 word synopsis and 500 word extract for works of poetry also need to be submitted.
Earlier this month, Stormzy was among the winners at the 2020 Rated Awards, which celebrate Black British music. Last month he pledged £500,000 to assist disadvantaged students and has also announced plans to donate no less than £10million to Black British causes and organisations over the next ten years.
