Talib Kweli and Madlib announce new album, 'Liberation 2'
They've also shared lead cut 'After These Messages'
Talib Kweli and Madlib have shared details of a new collaborative album, 'Liberation 2'.
A sequel to 2007's 'Liberation', the new album will be released on 6th March exclusively through the Luminary podcast network. It will include contributions from Q-Tip, Westside Gunn, Wildchild and Roc Marciano, as well as a posthumous feature by Mac Miller.
In a statement, Talib Kweli said the album would be "expansive in concept but tight in its substance and approach," adding: "The materialism and debauchery that is stereotypically associated with hip-hop has lost some of its lustre. Madlib and I have been consistent in our messaging. Never has there been a better time for such honest, message-driven music that pays tribute to the sounds that came before us."
Alongside the announcement of 'Liberation 2', the duo have shared a video for lead cut 'After These Messages', which you can watch below. The track features singer-songwriter Amani, and also samples words by TikTok creator LevertTheBassman, who talks about "racist rhetoric online".
Talib Kweli will play this year's We Out Here festival, together with Yasiin Bey, under their joint project, Black Star.
