Daft Punk share unseen 'Random Access Memories' studio footage in new 'Memory Tapes' interview series: Watch
'Memory Tapes' charts the making of the French duo's final album
Daft Punk have launched a new video series, 'Memory Tapes', which looks back at the making of their final album before their split in 2021, 'Random Access Memories'.
The new series will take in eight episodes, and forms part of an ongoing wave of anniversary content for 'Random Access Memories' in honour of its 10th anniversary. This has also included a reissue of the record featuring previously unheard bonus material, as well as a re-release of a mini-documentary series that was made about the album in 2013.
'Memory Tapes' is billed as a continuation of that series, and offers an opportunity for the French duo's various collaborators on the album to share their memories of the recording process, and explore the impact that the record and Daft Punk have had on their own careers, and on music more generally.
Interviews for 'Memory Tapes' were captured at Henson Studios in Los Angeles and Gang Studios in Paris, in spaces where much of 'Random Access Memories' was recorded. The episodes also feature archival footage and never-seen-before studio footage of Daft Punk as they worked on the album.
The first two episodes, which you can watch below, are online now and feature interviews with The Strokes' Julian Casablancas and pianist Chilly Gonzales. Further episodes will include contributions from Pharrell Williams, Todd Edwards, DJ Falcon and Nile Rodgers, among others.
In April of this year, while promoting his solo album, Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter explained the reasons for the duo's split.
