This former power plant looks imposing and intimidating, but inside its atmosphere and strict no-photograph policy allows attendees to feel comfortable and free to express themselves. The high-ceilinged, industrial-style space consists of six rooms: Berghain, Panorama Bar, Kantine am Berghain, Halle, Lab.oratory and Saüle, plus the outdoor Garten during the summer months. Kitted out with a Funktion-One system, the club hosts some of the world’s most revered and celebrated DJs, and follows a sound policy of primarily techno, EBM and electro on the Berghain floor, and house and disco upstairs in Panorama Bar.
Although the club’s booking agency, Ostgut Ton, closed in October 2022, their resident DJs remain as active as ever, bringing new ideas and music to the venue. In the last year, long-running resident Steffi curated a takeover by her label Candy Mountain, inviting Berghain debutantes Tasha and Blasha & Allatt. Fellow resident Phase Fatale hosted his second BITE imprint showcase, inviting newcomers Nastya Vogan and Omon Breaker. And singer-songwriter Róisín Murphy returned to Panorama Bar for a riveting live performance, singing over the crowd from the table normally set up for decks and affirming the club’s far-reaching and tasteful vision in everything electronic music.
