Five arrested at “large” illegal rave on Wales’ Rhigos Mountain
Locals reported hearing a series of “loud bangs” from the mountain on Sunday night
Five people have been arrested after an illegal rave on South Wales’ Rhigos Mountain.
Police were first called to the Cynon Valley area during the early hours of Sunday morning (27th August), according to Wales Online, where officers attempted to disperse some 200 revellers who had gathered on the mountain.
To control the situation, South Wales Police were joined by a dog section, roads police unit, and National Police Air Support (NPAS) helicopter, who remained in attendance throughout Sunday and into Monday morning to prevent others from entering the rave site. The A6041 road over the Rhigos Mountain was closed for most of Sunday but has since reopened.
A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: “Five arrests were made following a dispersal order which was issued to minimise disruption to the local community. A vehicle containing sound equipment was also seized.”
“We are urging people to leave the site safely and stay away from the event. Road closures remain in place on the routes leading up to the mountain from Hirwaun and Treherbert. We would like to thank the local community for their patience and support.”
Earlier this year, 5,000 people attended a six-day illegal rave outside a small village in Spain. The free party reportedly welcomed Spanish, Italian, and Dutch party-goers during its near-week-long run time. A man on a solo camping trip also accidentally joined an illegal rave on the Yorkshire Moors.
