Green Valley has been in the top three of the Top 100 Clubs poll since 2011 — despite suffering a double setback in 2020. Not only was it shuttered in the early part of the year due to the pandemic, like pretty much every other club in the world, but it was then destroyed by a freak cyclone in June. This put the future of the club in doubt, but its loyal fans and staff ensured that it had the means to continue, and after a loving rebuild, it reopened again in December 2021.
Even while it was closed, Green Valley was still voted high in the poll by its enthusiastic followers, and 2023 is no different — it stays on the podium for the 13th consecutive year, an unrivalled spell at the top for which everyone involved should be duly proud. The 11,000 supporters throughout its difficult time are immortalised in a monument at the club, made out of the wreckage of its former structure, that will stand proudly and prominently in situ forever more.
What Green Valley has done for Brazil’s electronic music scene is immeasurable. Superstar DJs like ALOK and Vintage Culture owe a lot to GV’s support, and it’s hosted all manner of big-name international DJs, bringing some of the biggest and the best to its outdoor surrounds. Just in the last year the venue has booked the following: ALOK, Armin van Buuren, Black Coffee, Claptone, David Penn, Diplo, Dirty South, Eli & Fur, Gabe, Gorgon City, James Hype, Jan Blomqvist, John Summit, Illusionize, Lee Foss, Meduza, MK, Mochakk, Monolink, RÜFÜS DU SOL, Solardo, Sam Divine, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, Tube & Berger, Vintage Culture, and many more.
In the past 12 months, the spectacular site has had its bars renovated and access doors redesigned in order to facilitate a better crowd flow. The main stage — GV has a festival vibe, the biggest acts performing on a megastructure much larger than a lot of actual festival stages — has been brought closer to the audience/dancefloor to improve visibility, expanding it outwards a little bit.
Green Valley is at its peak over the winter months of the year, right up to Carnival time in Brazil a few weeks into each year. But in truth, every night at Green Valley is like a carnival — spectacular production, a breathtaking environment and enthusiastic crowds make any time spent at the club a night to remember.
