Linn has unveiled a new £50,000 LP12 turntable.

To mark the 50th anniversary of their landmark 1972 LP12 turntable, the Scottish-born company collaborated with Sir Jony Ive — Apple design chief from 1997 until 2019 — to create a limited-edition turntable called the LP12-50.

One of the primary updates to the new model is the introduction of Linn’s new Bedrok plinth technology. This is formed by "orthogonal layers of beech placed under extreme pressure to create an entirely new, solid and massive material". In addition, the new turntable features a precision-machined power/speed control button and hinges modelled by creative collective LoveFrom.

The LP12-50 is available in either a natural wood finish or painted white.

"Last year, I was approached by Sir Jony Ive. He shared his own enduring admiration for Linn — our designs, our ethos and our relentless pursuit of musical perfection," said Linn CEO, Gilad Tiefenbrun. "I was pleased to be able to reciprocate his admiration, and to discuss our shared values of beauty in design, peerless performance, user experience, and attention to detail.

“Our upcoming 50th anniversary year presented the perfect opportunity to create something extraordinary, together — and where better to start than with the product that started it all, Sondek LP12?”

Find out more info here. There are only 250 LP12 turntables on sale.

Earlier this year, Danish industrial designer CoolGeek launched a new deck, the VS-01, which allows you to play your vinyl vertically. A new Sonos-compatible turntable was also released and follows the launch of last year's slightly more expensive Stream Carbon model.
