Sofia Kourtesis announces debut album, 'Madres', shares single: Listen
The Peruvian artist will also perform at a string of live dates in November
Sofia Kourtesis has announced her debut album, ‘Madres’, and shared the lead single. Listen to ‘Si Te Portas Bonito’ below.
Arriving on 27th October via Ninja Tune, the 10-track album will also include recently released singles such as ‘Madres’, released in March, and 2022’s ‘Estación Esperanza’, featuring Manu Chao.
Described as being full of “hope and the value that big love can create miracles”, the album is dedicated to Kourtesis’ mother and the neurosurgeon that saved her life, Peter Vajkoczy.
The diagnosis came just months after the passing of the artist’s father – the subject of Kourtesis’ breakout single ‘La Perla’ – with her mother’s health deteriorating rapidly before Vajkoczy, one of the country’s leading surgeons, performed the successful operation.
“If you get lost, follow your mother's voice, they will always bring you back. I also want to dedicate this song to Peter Vajkoczy, a brain surgeon who has become the hope of my own mother!,” Kourtesis said of the first single, ‘Madres’. “He gives people hope by doing the most complicated surgeries in the world; he believes in miracles, love, and the strength to protect loved ones. Life goes by quickly. Life is fragile.”
Sonically, the record draws on the dual sounds of the artist’s Peruvian home and adopted home in Berlin, elevating the electronic and pop elements first heard on 2021’s debut EP, ‘Fresia Magdalena’.
Kourtesis has also announced a string of live dates in November including London's Islington Assembly Hall and Manchester's Canvas. Check out the full list of live dates below.
