Tupac Shakur’s ring sells at auction for $1million

A ring that was designed and once worn by Tupac Shakur has sold at auction for $1,016,000.

The item was part of a collection of hip-hop memorabilia which was sold by auction house Sotheby's last week to mark the 50th anniversary of the birth of the music genre, and it's now been revealed that the purchaser of the ring was Drake. It had been expected to sell for at least $200,000.

Shakur wore the custom gold, diamond and ruby crown ring during his final public appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards at Radio City Music Hall in New York on 4th September, 1996. The rapper was shot three days later in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada, and died some days after that.

The ring was made to commemorate Shakur's engagement to Kidada Jones with an inscription of "Pac & Dada 1996" included on it. Sotheby's says the late rapper usually wore the item on his left-hand ring finger, and abrasions on the palm-facing left side of the ring show where it likely came into regular contact with his pinky ring.

It was first revealed that the ring was being put up for auction earlier in July.
