Aphex Twin announces new EP on Warp, shares single: Listen
'Blackbox Life Recorder 21f / In a Room7 F760' will be released on the 28th July
Aphex Twin has shared a new single, ‘Blackbox Life Recorder 21f’, which will be released as part of a four-track EP on Warp next month.
The full EP, titled ‘Blackbox Life Recorder 21f / in a room7 F760’, will be released on the 28th July on digital and vinyl formats. The new EP will mark Aphex Twin’s first since 2018’s ‘Collapse’, and the first new music we’ve heard from the enigmatic producer since 2019’s ‘Peel Session 2’, released as part of Warp’s thirtieth birthday series. Earlier this month, a new book was published analysing every Aphex Twin album and track to date.
Aphex Twin is also touring again this summer for the first time since 2019 with six European festival dates in the diary, including Best Kept Secret, Syd For Solen, Rosendal Garden Party, Dour Festival, Sónar, and Field Day. He teased his appearance at the latter via a cryptic web page which featured Aphex Twin's logo, the word “LONDON” and the URL 190823 – the date of London's Field Day festival at Victoria Park.
Last year, Aphex Twin released a free “sample mashing” app called Samplebrain. The open-source sound design software works by chopping samples up into a “brain” of interconnected snippets called ‘blocks’, which are “connected into a network by similarity.” The app was created with engineer Dave Griffiths, and was originally inspired by Shazam. Prior to that, he dropped a surprise NFT auction, in collaboration with artist Weirdcore.
